Good news. The St Helens Park Preservation Society are pleased to inform our members
that we have this year purchased two small plots of land adjacent to our property.
This will prevent development on that land.
Our sincere thanks to all our members and others who support our events,
so enabling us to take such action whenever the opportunity arises.
Once again we are offering our members and their guests lunch and entertainment as a thank you for your
continued support and in celebration of the start of a new year. For a
small charge of only £5 per head, the events committee will provide a 3
course lunch during this event. The lunch will be held at The Calvert
Methodist Church Hall, Mount Pleasant Road, Hastings at 12 noon. Please let
Pat Collins know asap if you wish to attend and certainly no later than 1st
November, as this is proving to be a very
popular event.
This is a new event that we hope you will enjoy in a very practical way.
Conservation of our wildlife goes hand in hand with the preservation of St Helens Woods.
Many of the natural habitats of our British bird species are rapidly disappearing with the loss of
natural habitats and so we want to encourage you to "Give a Bird a Home" by building a bird nesting box.
So if you have never built a nest box, why not give it a go this year? We will help you create a nest box
by providing the prepared wood for you, so no previous experience is necessary and even the young can have a go. Then you can either leave your nesting box with us to place in the woods or for a small fee, take your box home to decorate and hang in your own garden, just at the right time for nesting birds. Refreshments will be available. Meet at the BBQ site at 3.00 p.m.
To help us with the necessary preparations, please notify us via the attached proforma at the top of the page if you intend to participate.
Once again, we are holding a walk through the Woods under the
guidance of our expert volunteer, Caroline Kempster. Those of you who have
joined us on this walk before, will know that Caroline talks us through the
changing nature of the Woods and meadowland at this time of year as well as
informing participants of much of the history of the area as we go along.
We meet at 3.00 p.m. at the Langham Road entrance. Sensible footwear is
essential. Refreshments are available at the end of the walk. Donations
toward the upkeep of the Woods area are gratefully appreciated.
Roll up, roll up for our annual summer fayre. This is
our main fundraising event of the year and will once again feature lots of
entertainment in the form of games, rides, sporting challenges, music, food,
plants, Punch and Judy, Bats and much, much more besides. Great fun for
everyone and not to be missed. The event is held in the BBQ site area and
entrance is via Langham Road. The fun starts at 1.00 p.m. so come along
with friends and family and have a great time.
Watch this space for details to follow of a new event which
will help you to understand this much maligned little inhabitant of our Woods.
Come along and let your Council know your views and what you would
like to see happen in the future for St Helen's at our AGM. There is plenty of parking
in the area.
DETAILS TO FOLLOW.
Don't risk burning your own fingers! Instead, come and join
us at our annual BBQ. As well as scrumptious food cooked by our own expert
volunteers, other pleasures will include a licensed bar for beer and wine as
well as soft drinks to wash it all down; a hearty fire to keep you warm; and
free musical entertainment. The fun starts at 7.00 p.m. at the BBQ site,
which is accessed via the Langham Road entrance. As ever, all proceeds
generated go toward the maintenance of St Helens Woods so bring all your
family and friends to support us and to enjoy this popular evening out.
Venture down some new paths, or simply see paths you know in
a new light, all under the guidance of our volunteer expert, Caroline Kempster.
She will point out to you many interesting facts about the nature of the woods
and its inhabitants as you meander, concentrating on those features of most
interest to you whether they are your favourite trees, birds or animals.
This is a very relaxing way to spend a Sunday afternoon and at the end of
the walk, a cup of tea or coffee will await at the BBQ site. Sensible
footwear is essential. Participation is free, but donations toward the
preservation of St Helens Woods would be gratefully received.
With Halloween just around the corner, what better time to
brush on those cobwebs, get out your ghouls and wake up your witches to join
us for some spooky fun? The BBQ site will be transformed into a gory ghetto
for this family-orientated party. Appropriate appearance is compulsory and
there will be competitions, games and lots of other fun, so come along if
you dare! See if you can frighten the frighteners! Refreshments will be
available from our witches kitchen. Look out for further details nearer
the time. Entrance will be via Langham Road and the fun will commence at
6.00 p.m. and end at 9.00 p.m. An experience not to be missed so kids,
bring your Mum and Dad along.
