Dog walker’s code of conduct
St. Helen’s Woods Dog Walker’s Code of Conduct:
Recall Training: Make sure your dog is trained to respond to basic recall commands. If they’re not yet reliable, please keep them on a lead at all times.
Keep Your Dog in Sight: Always keep your dog visible and under control, especially around other people, dogs, and wildlife.
Grazing animals: Be extra cautious around grazing animals. Keep your dog on a short lead if necessary to ensure the safety of both the animals and your dog.
Clean Up: Always clean up after your dog and take waste away with you. This is essential in keeping the woods chemical-free and preserving the delicate balance of ecosystems. There are bins located at the main entrance on Langham Road and at the top of St. Helen’s Wood Road on Grange Road.
Stick to the Paths: To protect ground-nesting birds, and the delicate ground flora and tree roots, please stick to the designated paths when walking your dog.
Respect Others: Be considerate of other walkers and their dogs. If you encounter a dog on a lead, please put yours on a lead as well.
Professional Dog Walkers: If you’re a professional dog walker, please limit the group to no more than 6 dogs at a time to ensure everyone’s safety and comfort. We advise that you follow the RSPCA’s code of conduct for professional dog walkers.
Ponds and waterways: Do not encourage your dog to swim in the ponds and streams, as this will disturb and damage the wildlife and ecosystems. Dog flea treatments are non-selective insecticides.
